Holidaying in Norway this summer?
You don’t need to travel abroad to check in at a great hotel. If you’re spending the summer in the capital or another city in the country, there are plenty of lovely places to spend a night or two.
But there’s no hiding that some hotels are a little extra special and tempting to check in to. Choosing the hotel is part of the experience, after all, isn’t it?
We’ve rounded up some of the finest hotels around the country.
Amerikalinjen, Oslo
If you’re staying at a hotel in the capital this summer, this boutique hotel is a good choice. Amerikalinjen sits centrally on Jernbanetorget and creates a great atmosphere from the moment you walk through the door. Beautifully designed rooms, a New York-inspired bar in the lobby and a modern gym in the basement are just some of what it has to offer.

Britannia Hotel, Trondheim
This exclusive hotel from 1870 is located in the middle of Trondheim city centre and is an experience in itself. If you enjoy elegant and beautiful surroundings, you should definitely check in at Britannia. Here you can sleep in bright, luxurious rooms with marble bathrooms – and even a gold bathtub if you like. Perhaps it’s no surprise that the hotel has had its own TV series?

Opus XVI, Bergen
In the heart of Bergen you’ll find the historic hotel Opus XVI – which is actually named after the music of the composer Edvard Grieg. The classic hotel has 65 unique rooms, each furnished differently – but in a modern way. Here you’ll have a view of either Mount Fløyen or the busy Vågsallmenningen square.

Solstrand Hotel & Bad, Os
A charming seaside spa hotel can hardly go wrong, can it? Not far from Bergen, in Os to be precise, you’ll find Solstrand Hotel & Bad. The idyllic hotel is surrounded by a large garden with views of the fjord and mountains. Idyllic, in other words.

Hotel Victoria, Stavanger
In Stavanger city centre you’ll find Hotel Victoria – in a Victorian building from the 1900s right by the sea. And it’s just as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. Luxurious interiors in the rooms and a stylish restaurant with afternoon tea, dinner and cocktails on the menu are some of what you’ll find inside the historic hotel.

Walaker Hotell, Sogn
Walaker Hotell is in Solvorn in Sogn, and is actually Norway’s oldest hotel still in operation. The hotel is more than 380 years old and has been run by the Nitter family since 1690. Here you can enjoy lazy days in beautiful, peaceful surroundings with a rose garden and the Lustrafjord right outside.

Hotel Ullensvang, Hardanger
If you’re heading to Hardanger this summer, perhaps this hotel is tempting to check out? Hotel Ullensvang is surrounded by beautiful nature and has a spa with views of the Hardangerfjord. Here you can splash about in both the indoor and outdoor pools while enjoying the scenic surroundings.

Boen Gård Hotell, Kristiansand
Norway has no shortage of hotels surrounded by beautiful nature. In Kristiansand you’ll find Boen Gård Hotell, which opened to guests in 2012. This gem in Sørlandet, the south coast, has 18 rooms, 14 of which have been fully renovated – while still keeping some of the old charm. Idyllic countryside and the hotel’s own vegetable garden are right outside the door.

Gamlebyen Hotell, Fredrikstad
In Gamlebyen, the Old Town of Fredrikstad, you’ll find yet another hotel gem. If you prefer cosy and charming to luxury, Gamlebyen Hotell is probably for you. Here you can sleep in a charming room furnished with a personal style.
