The American denim brand MOTHER has teamed up with the legendary record store Amoeba Music. The result is a capsule collection for anyone who remembers the joy of flicking through crates of records.
Vinyl made its comeback a long time ago. Now fashion is following suit. MOTHER is expanding its holiday collection with a capsule created together with Amoeba Music.

Amoeba is the world’s largest independent record store. It opened in Berkeley in 1990 and today has stores in Berkeley, San Francisco and Hollywood. Among music lovers, the place is almost a pilgrimage site. Many also know the series “What’s in My Bag?”, where artists show off the records they’ve picked up.
The magic of the record shop
For Lela Becker, president and co-founder of MOTHER, the collaboration is personal.
– I grew up near San Francisco, and for me Amoeba has always meant more than music. There’s something magical about disappearing for hours inside a record shop. You stumble across something unexpected and make it part of your world. That feeling of discovery, and of living a little more slowly, is at the heart of the stories we tell, she says.
Six pieces for record collectors
The collection consists of six unisex garments and accessories. The star is the Drifter jacket, decorated with pins in punk colours. It comes with matching overalls with a co-branded patch on the back. The T-shirts and sweatshirt carry Amoeba’s famous rainbow-coloured logo. A record bag rounds off the set. It’s just as suited to digging through the crates as it is to carrying your favourite records.

– We wanted to make pieces that remind you of the finds you make in the vintage bins, says Tim Kaeding. He is co-founder and creative director of MOTHER.
Born in California
Lela Becker and Tim Kaeding started MOTHER in 2010. The first collection of vintage-inspired jeans arrived at a time when black skinny jeans dominated. The brand carved out a whole new space in the denim world. Today, MOTHER also makes casualwear, outerwear and accessories. More than 90 per cent of production still takes place in Los Angeles.

How to get hold of it
The collection goes on sale on 15 October at motherdenim.com and in selected MOTHER stores. Prices range from around NOK 1,900 to NOK 5,700.
