Darker mornings, colder air and often a little too little sleep: autumn is high season for tired-looking eyes. These are five eye creams we’d recommend for your bathroom shelf right now.

Eye cream is perhaps one of the most debated steps in skincare. Do we really need a separate cream for around the eyes? Not necessarily. But the skin here is thin, and for me, a really good eye cream is above all worth the money when it does more than just add moisture.

In autumn, I look for formulas that provide plenty of hydration but also work on things like fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. After taking a closer look at this autumn’s launches, ingredient lists and the favourites customers keep coming back to, these are the five I’d bet on.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Future Restore Eye Serum

One of the eye creams I’ve been testing for over a week now, and I can already tell I like it a lot. Here, Elemis combines its well-known Padina Pavonica algae with elderflower extract, hawthorn and jasmine, among other ingredients. The aim is hydration, less visible puffiness and a firmer, more awake-looking eye area. The texture is light and gel-like, and it can also be used on the eyelid. A real luxury contender for autumn. Hanskin Collagen Peptide Eye Cream

K-beauty is still hard to avoid, and Hanskin is a brand worth keeping an eye on. This eye cream combines collagen and peptides in a hydrating formula designed to give the skin around the eyes a smoother, more supple look. I used it myself all summer and got good results. A good option if what you’re mainly after is lots of moisture and that lovely “plumped” feeling. The price is also very good for a quality product. It costs NOK 439 at VITA.no HERE

Shiseido Future Solution LX Eye and Lip Contour Regenerating Cream

Yes, it’s pricey. But if I’m going to include one real luxury investment, it’s this one. Shiseido’s rich eye and lip cream is developed to target dryness, fine lines, dark circles and loss of firmness, among other things. It’s exactly the kind of richer cream I like the idea of when temperatures drop, and at several retailers it has received full marks – 5 out of 5 stars from customers. Kiehl’s Avocado Creamy Eye Treatment

Some products become classics for a reason. Kiehl’s iconic avocado cream contains avocado oil, shea butter and beta-carotene, among other things, and is especially good when the skin around the eyes feels dry and tight. It also has an impressive 134 reviews at KICKS. This isn’t necessarily the choice if you want the most advanced anti-ageing formula, but for pure, lovely autumn hydration? Yes please. Clarins Total Eye Lift

If what you want is the eye cream that gives you “a bit of everything”, this is where I’d look. Clarins Total Eye Lift is designed to work on firmness, lines and a tired eye area, among other things, while the texture is light enough for everyday use. It has earned a great many good user reviews internationally and is one of the eye creams that keeps turning up on bestseller lists. A solid all-rounder if you want one eye cream that can stay on your bathroom shelf all autumn.

So, do you really need eye cream? Maybe not. For me, it’s a fixed part of my routine, and if you’re going to invest in one, these are five we think deserve a place on your bathroom shelf this autumn!
