Fancy something other than the usual Friday round? During Art Night, cultural venues in Bjørvika and Oslobukta open their doors for an evening you can put together exactly as you like.

It’s easy to think a night out requires a plan. Tables have to be booked, tickets bought and someone has to decide where everyone meets. On Friday 25 September, the plan can be as simple as this: head to Bjørvika and see where the wind takes you.

From 4 pm, the area becomes a free culture trail. You can start with photography at Mikes Corner, pop into the FLOP Museum to see products that didn’t quite go to plan, and carry on to the galleries in Operagata. At KÖSK, an exhibition with Lars Stensli and Zoran Gizdic opens, while the Queen Sonja Print Awards marks its fifteenth anniversary with the exhibition Collaborations at QSPA.

If you want to see something that usually happens behind the scenes, the Opera House opens up for a rehearsal with the Norwegian National Ballet at 7 pm. The audience gets to watch the dancers work on excerpts from the upcoming production León & Lightfoot: Salle de Danse. At Deichman Bjørvika, you can also experience art in several places around the library.

And when the museum tour should really be over? Then the evening continues at MUNCH. During Late Night, the museum offers DJs, art talks, performance and shows by Quickstyle, before the party moves on to MUNCH Bar & Restaurant.

Perhaps the best thing about Art Night is that you don’t have to choose between art, dance and a night out. Bring a friend, start somewhere and let the rest of the evening unfold as you go.

Art Night takes place on Friday 25 September in Oslobukta and Bjørvika. The programme starts at 4 pm, and the events are free and open to all
