Vintage references, big jackets and a soft spot for animal print. Marie-Louise Lange loves clothes with character and doesn’t mind if her outfit divides opinion.

On TikTok and Instagram, Marie-Louise shares weekly inspiration in fashion, hair and makeup. Her followers also get a glimpse into a wardrobe where classic pieces meet vintage inspiration, animal print and playful details. She has a feel for the classics, but rarely lets the basics stand completely on their own. A print, a hat or an unexpected silhouette is usually invited along.

We talked to her about her wardrobe, her autumn favourites and why it’s more interesting to dress according to your mood than to follow trends.

Classic with room for leopard

Marie-Louise describes her style as classic, feminine, vintage-inspired and playful. Good basics lay the foundation, while the details leave room for experimenting.

– I love good basics, but I always like to add something that makes the outfit a little more exciting.

Vintage fashion is an important source of inspiration. She’s drawn to pieces with character and details that feel timeless, and likes to combine them with newer elements. Oversized silhouettes are a recurring theme, often paired with something more feminine.

And even though her wardrobe has a classic starting point, there’s plenty of room for prints.

– I have a huge love for animal print, especially leopard and zebra! I like mixing old with new, dressing according to my mood and not worrying too much about following every trend. For me, fashion should be fun!

It’s the contrasts that do it

A simple pair of jeans can get a new lease of life with a jacket that takes up space. A tie can take on a different character with feminine shoes. For Marie-Louise, much of the joy of styling lies in finding combinations like these.

– My best styling tip is not to be afraid to experiment. I love combining different silhouettes and textures, for example an oversized jacket and a tie with a pair of feminine shoes, or really simple jeans with more of a statement jacket. I often think it’s the contrasts that make an outfit interesting.

Accessories also get to play a clear role. A bag, sunglasses or a hat can be what makes the rest of the outfit fall into place. But the most important thing is how the clothes feel to wear.

– I really think clothes look best when the person wearing them feels good and comfortable.

The fact that others might have chosen differently doesn’t bother her in the slightest.

– If not everyone likes what you’re wearing, maybe you’ve done something right! It just means you dare to stand out and have your very own style. Fashion isn’t about pleasing everyone, it’s about expressing who you are.

Outerwear in the leading role

Now that it’s getting colder outside, Marie-Louise has more to play with. She’s picturing a season of big jackets, layering and textures that keep an outfit interesting even when most of it is hidden under outerwear.

– I especially love jackets that are almost an outfit in themselves!

She also thinks the combination of sporty and classic pieces will get more space. And if she gets her wish, the animal prints will follow us into winter.

– I also hope we’ll see even more animal print, especially zebra, which I’ve become totally obsessed with. Autumn and winter fashion is perfect for experimenting a little extra with styling, she tells M&H.

The hat makes the difference

Her favourite right now is neither a particular dress nor a pair of jeans. Marie-Louise has developed a taste for what happens at the very top of the outfit.

– I’ve actually really taken to hats and different kinds of headwear. I think it’s so fun how one small detail can change the whole look of an outfit.

A printed headscarf or a Paris-inspired hat is welcome to accompany the bigger jackets into the cold season.

– It gives the outfit that little something extra!

So before you write off the jacket already hanging in your wardrobe: perhaps all it needs is a headscarf, a hat or a pair of unexpected shoes. Thank you for the peek, Marie-Louise!
